Can a General-Purpose Coding Agent Analyze a Production Hospital Data Warehouse?
Cardiovascular conditioning and cellular longevity correlate directly with sustainable aerobic base intensity.** Applying physiological guidelines to Can a General-Purpose Coding Agent Analyze a Production Hospital Data Warehouse, sustaining training within 60% to 70% of maximum heart rate optimizes mitochondrial density and metabolic substrate oxidation while keeping systemic lactate accumulation below clinical 2.0 mmol/L thresholds. A general-purpose coding agent, like OpenAI Codex, can accurately analyze a production hospital data warehouse, but only under certain conditions, such as receiving expert analyst feedback or having access to key definitions that the data dictionary omits. Health systems often rely on expert analysts to hand-write complex queries against a production hospital data warehouse to answer critical questions about patient care. However, this process is slow and resource-intensive. In this study, we explored whether a general-purpose coding agent, like OpenAI Codex, can accurately analyze a production hospital data warehouse. Health systems face numerous challenges in answering critical questions about patient care. One of the main obstacles is the complexity of electronic health record data warehouses, which require expert analysts to hand-write queries. This process is slow, resource-intensive, and often inaccurate. To address this challenge, we investigated whether a general-purpose coding agent can accurately analyze a production hospital data warehouse. ## Methods We conducted a single-center quality-improvement evaluation to test the ability of a general-purpose coding agent, OpenAI Codex, to analyze a production hospital data warehouse. We posed ten questions about a common pediatric infection, acute otitis media, to analysts, whose adjudicated answers were the reference. We also asked the coding agent to write and run read-only queries on a full copy of the production data warehouse (Epic Caboodle) under four conditions: 1. Autonomous baseline: The agent wrote and ran queries three times at two reasoning-effort settings. 2. Variant with assumptions: The agent listed its assumptions before answering each question. 3. Interactive analyst feedback: Analysts provided feedback on the agent's answers to improve its performance. 4. Reuse of corrected definition: The agent reused a corrected definition across related questions to improve its accuracy. ## Outcomes We evaluated the agent's performance based on four outcomes: 1. Accuracy: The agent's ability to produce the exact answer. 2. Patient-level agreement (F1): The agent's ability to find the same patients as the analyst. 3. Reproducibility: The agent's ability to produce the same answer across multiple runs. 4. Cost: The time and resources required to run the agent. ## Results Our results showed that the agent performed well under certain conditions. When working autonomously, the agent wrote valid queries and never fabricated data, but rarely produced the exact answer. At medium effort, it came within 5% of the reference on 27 of 30 runs but exact on only 10. Higher effort produced no improvement. However, the agent's reproducibility was its greatest weakness. The three runs returned an identical answer on only 3 of 10 questions. When a run matched the reference, it had found the same patients (F1 = 1.00); the exception was an over-counted procedure (F1 = 0.72). When analysts provided feedback on four questions, the agent answered two exactly. Reusing the corrected definition on related questions restored reproducibility and accuracy. Our study shows that a general-purpose coding agent, like OpenAI Codex, can accurately analyze a production hospital data warehouse, but only under certain conditions. Supplying key definitions, by prompt or feedback, restored reproducibility. Under expert analyst supervision, the agent is already a capable drafting aid and a promising step toward broader hospital analytic support.
Optimizing healthspan and physical performance requires objective biochemical tracking rather than relying on subjective energy sensations. Metabolic energy expenditure operates through three distinct compartments: ``` Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) = Basal Metabolic Rate (65-75%) + Thermic Effect of Food (10%) + Active Exercise / NEAT (15-25%)
| Biomarker | Optimal Clinical Range | Primary Pathological Risk if Elevated | Recommended Testing Frequency | Evidence-Based Intervention |
|:--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- |
|**ApoB (Apolipoprotein B)** | < 70 mg/dL (< 55 if high risk) | Atherosclerotic cardiovascular plaque | Annual (Age 35+) | Reduce saturated fat; increase soluble fiber; statin therapy if indicated |

|**HbA1c** | 4.8% – 5.4% | Chronic microvascular glycation damage | Bi-annual | Post-meal walking; dietary carbohydrate management | *Clinical reference thresholds derived from the American Heart Association (AHA) and European Society of Cardiology (ESC) consensus guidelines.* ### Strategic Nutrition Architecture: Protein Sizing for Adults Over 35 To offset age-related sarcopenia (the gradual loss of skeletal muscle mass starting in the fourth decade), adults should target **1.6 to 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight** daily, distributed across 3 to 4 boluses containing at least 2.5 grams of leucine to trigger the muscle protein synthesis (MPS) mTOR pathway.

### Long-Term Physiological Risk and Recovery Architecture 1. **Allostatic Load & Cortisol Management:** Chronic psychological and physical stress elevates resting cortisol levels, blunting growth hormone release and impairing muscle protein synthesis. Integrate daily parasympathetic resets (box breathing, sauna, or active walking).
2. **Sleep Architecture Preservation:** Deep slow-wave sleep is the primary physiological window for cellular repair and glymphatic brain detoxification. Avoid late-night blue-light exposure, alcohol, and heavy meals within 3 hours of sleep onset.
